Food Labeling
for Pet Food
From the Chicago Tribune
issue of May 14, 2008
WASHINGTON — Pet food labels with calories per serving could help
obese animals shed pounds, a veterinarians' association told the
Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday.
"Pet owners do not always know how much to feed," said John Branam,
testifying on behalf of the American Veterinary Medical Association.
The FDA held the hearing to help it devise pet food labeling
standards.
Fat cats (and dogs): The association says
54 million pets in the U.S. are obese, an "epidemic" that is
growing. But the Pet Food Institute says calorie labels are
unnecessary and won't work.
